Reinstatement

If you are on this page it means that you have previously been licensed with APEGS or an equivalent Association/Ordre in Canada and your membership ended either for non-payment or resignation.

This page does not apply to you
if you are currently registered as a member in good standing in an Association/Ordre equivalent to APEGS. Go to the Inter-Association Mobility page.

The process for reinstatement depends on the situations covered in the nine reinstatement cases shown below. To determine which scenario applies to you, you must know the date your membership ended (ceased). You may contact Tina Maki, Director of Registration to determine the date and to confirm which case applies to you.

I resigned my APEGS membership by January 31 (or first business day after if January 31st falls on a weekend) in the year in which my fees were due and want to reinstate in the same calendar year that the resignation pertained to. This includes members or licensees who resigned prior to December 31 for the upcoming year.

  • You are NOT required to submit a new application.
  • You must pay the pro-rated annual fees for the remainder of the year.
  • Call the APEGS office to reinstate. You may pay by credit card number over the phone. If requested, we will send you a dues notice so you can give it to your accounting department for payment.
  • Your membership is not reinstated until the annual fees are paid.

Reinstatement Case 2

My APEGS membership ended because I did not pay my annual fees by January 31 (or first business day after if January 31st falls on a weekend) and I want to reinstate in the same calendar year that my membership ended.

This section applies if you did not pay annual fees by January 31 OR we received your resignation after January 31 of the year in which the annual fees were due (January 31 is the payment deadline).

  • You are NOT required to submit a new application.
  • You must pay the full annual fees for that year plus the reinstatement fee (which is 15% of the annual fees).
  • Call the APEGS office to reinstate.  You may pay by credit card number over the phone. You will already have received a dues notice and a registered letter stating that your membership ceased.
  • Your membership is not reinstated until the annual fees and reinstatement fee are paid.

Reinstatement Case 3

My APEGS membership ended in a previous year, but less than two years ago. It does not matter why my membership ended.

a)   You are required to submit a new application including the processing fee. Use the application instructions below only if you are NOT currently registered in another Association / Ordre in Canada. If you are currently registered in another Association/Ordre (or your registration ended less than three months ago), apply under Inter-Association mobility by going to the Inter-Association Mobility web page.

  • Click here for the on-line application system. When you get to the screen that asks you to choose an application type, choose one of the following as applicable:
    • If you were a P.Eng. or P.Geo. at the time your membership ended, use application type "Former professional member reinstating".
    • If you were an engineer-in-training at the time your membership ended and you received your engineering bachelor degree from within Canada, use application type "Engineer-in-Training - Cdn grad".
    • If you were a geoscientist-in-training at the time your membership ended and you received your geoscience bachelor degree from within Canada, use application type "Geoscientist-in-Training - Cdn grad".
    • If you were an engineer-in-training at the time your membership ended and you received your engineering bachelor degree from outside Canada, use application type "Engineer-in-Training - Intl grad".
    • If you were a geoscientist-in-training at the time your membership ended and you received your geoscience bachelor degree from outside Canada, use application type "Geoscientist-in-Training - Intl grad"
  • If you are not able to apply on-line (either because you cannot pay by credit card or your employer is paying the application fee you and they are GST exempt, such as Government of Saskatchewan or Sask Watershed Authority), you can find the paper application form on the applicable web page under Apply (then choose the membership type under “Apply” that you were last registered as).

b)   We will send you a dues notice once you are approved.

c)    You must pay the pro-rated annual fees once you are approved.

d)   You will have six weeks to pay annual fees. Click here for fee payments options.

e)   You are NOT required re-do any assessments or submit references or work history.

Reinstatement Case 4

I applied to APEGS and my membership was approved, but I did not activate my membership by paying my annual fees. It has been less than two years since my original approval notice. APEGS calls this “Inactive Pending Payment”.

  • You are NOT required to submit a new application or re-do any of the requirements.
  • You must pay the pro-rated annual fees for the remainder of the year.
  • Call the APEGS office to notify us that you want to activate your membership.
  • You may pay your annual fees using one of the fee payment options available. We prefer that you pay by credit card over the phone or by credit/debit/cash at the APEGS office.
  • Your membership is not reinstated until the annual fees are paid.

Reinstatement Case 5

My APEGS membership ended more than two years ago  (or more than three months ago with another Association/Ordre). It does not matter why my membership ended.

a)      You must re-apply, be re-assessed by APEGS and pay the current processing fee only if you are NOT currently registered as a member in good standing in an Association/Ordre equivalent to APEGS (or your registration ended less than three months ago). If you are currently registered in another Association/Ordre (or your registration ended less than three months ago), go to the Inter-Association Mobility page.

  • See further details below on how to apply, depending on your registration type at the time your membership ended.

b)      After we have received your application, we will contact you if we need additional documentation (we will check your file for any documentation we need).

c)      Once you have been approved, APEGS will send you an approval notice, which will include a statement of your annual fees.

d)      You will have six weeks to pay annual fees. Click here for fee payments options.

Case 5a) If you were a Member-in-training when your membership ended

If you were a member-in-training with APEGS when your membership ended more than two years ago (or more than three months ago with another Association/Ordre), then you must submit the member-in-training application. Select the appropriate link below to find the application process that applies to you, depending on where you earned your bachelor degree (these links take you to the appropriate page in the “Apply” section of the APEGS web site). “Canadian” or “international” refers to the place you received your bachelor degree, not the place you received your graduates degree(s).

Note: if you have since become a professional member in another Association/Ordre in Canada and you are currently a member in good standing (or your membership ended less than three months ago), then you should apply under Inter-Association Mobility (not as a reinstatement applicant).

If you were a professional member when your membership ended with APEGS more than two years ago (or more than three months ago with another Association/Ordre), then you must submit the application type “Former professional member reinstating” in the on-line application system. (NOTE: If you are currently registered in another Association/Ordre (or your registration ended less than three months ago), go to the Inter-Association Mobility page and apply under Inter-Association Mobility, not "former professional member reinstating").

a)      Apply on-line using the “Former professional member reinstating” application type.

  • If the on-line application system is not available, or you are not able to pay by credit card, use the application form provided in the Attachments below. Do not submit the paper application if you are applying on-line.

b)      You must provide three references (which will be requested in the on-line application).

c)      You must provide a detailed resume, similar to what you would submit with a job application; Include month and year of employment start and end dates. Submit your resume by email at the time you apply to apegs@apegs.ca and include "Former professional member reinstating" in the subject line.

  • The Experience Review Committee (ERC) will re-assess your work experience based on the resume you provide and the responses from the references. The ERC checks for four years of acceptable work experience, some of which must be from within the past two years.

Note: If you are currently registered as a professional member with another Association/Ordre in Canada and you are currently a member in good standing (or your membership ended less than three months ago), then you should apply under Inter-Association Mobility (not as a reinstatement applicant).
