Communications Manager

The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) is the governing body for the engineering and geoscience professions in Saskatchewan. APEGS mission is “Achieving a Safe and Prosperous Future through Engineering and Geoscience.” This is accomplished in the public interest through self-regulation and professional licensing. APEGS operates through a Council / Board / Committee governance structure supported by a dedicated member volunteer base and by staff.

The Communications Manager will work to raise public awareness of APEGS responsibility in promoting public safety and enhancing public knowledge of the professional characteristics, values and responsibilities of professional engineers and geoscientists. Member and client communications utilizing traditional media and online initiatives will be required.

Candidates will have the following qualifications:
  • An undergraduate University Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English or other related discipline with a minimum of four years progressive and broad-range communications work experience.
  • Superior communication skills, both oral and written, and excellent interpersonal abilities.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of best practices in use of traditional and online communications tools, including an understanding of major social media platforms.
  • Ability to break down complex briefs and information into clear, concise and persuasive communications.
  • Proficiency in writing and assembling interesting and informative news releases, speeches, PowerPoint presentations and related corporate materials.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the use of print and broadcast media, with experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with relevant local, provincial and national media.
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of engineering, geoscience and regulatory procedures and activities would be an asset.
