Work Experience Reporting - Engineering - Paper-Based System 


Ensure that you have read thoroughly and understand all experience reporting guidelines before beginning your work experience submission. This will greatly increase the chance of success and reduce the risk of being required to re-submit.

BEFORE YOU GET STARTED - If you are an engineer-in-training and have not submitted any experience reports in the paper-based system by January 1, 2019 then you must use the new online Competency-Based Assessment system, not the paper-based system.

This page contains information on the outgoing, paper-based experience reporting system for engineers-in-training. You are only eligible to use the paper-based system if at least one paper-based report was received at the APEGS office, completed in full by December 31, 2018.  

If you are a professional engineer in the United States and you have an up-to-date NCEES Record, then your NCEES Record will suffice for experience reporting, academic documents and references. There is no need to submit experience reports on APEGS forms if you will be submitting your NCEES Record.

When Filling out Experience Reporting Forms:

  • Make sure you always use the most recent version of the reporting form (download date is located below each attachment). 
  • Use the "Self-Check List" and the "Work Experience Reporting Orientation presentation" posted below to ensure that your report is completed properly. 

The experience reporting form was created in MicroSoft Word 2003. To use the form: open it; save it to your computer; close it; and re-open it. It should open in Microsoft Word. The hyperlinks and other features in the forms should then be functional. 

Once your Report(s) has been submitted:

  • APEGS requires one to three months from the time forms are received and completed in full to complete the review.
  • If there are problems with your report(s), we will contact you. 

You can submit the professional member application at the same time you submit the last of your reports. See the Professional Member page for the application instructions. 

We send experience results by email, results will not be provided over the phone. Do not contact the APEGS office for experience resultsThey are sent when they are ready.  You can also check experience and application status in APEGS Central (your online profile) by clicking "Login" in the top right corner on the APEGS website then navigating to "Applications" then select your professional member application workflow. 


Mentor Approval and Mentor Request forms


For the paper-based experience reporting system only:
APEGS only requires a mentor form if your supervisor is not a P.Eng or would not be considered a professional engineer in the country where you obtained your experience. Those members-in-training needing a mentor for experience reporting purposes need to submit to APEGS either the Mentor Approval form (in cases where you have a mentor in mind already) or the Mentor Request form (if you require a mentor from the APEGS list of volunteers). Please note that due to high demand and fluctuating quantity of volunteer mentors, mentor requests may take 6-8 weeks or more to process. See section 4 of Experience Guideline 1 for complete information.
