DESCRIPTION:Date: October 30\, 2024 \nTime: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CST (Saskatchewan Time) \nEvent Format: Live Webinar \nHosting Organization:  APEGS – A Member-Led Live Webinar Series Presentation \nEvent Summary: This presentation covers a short history of progressive collapse and uses the review of these catastrophic events to show the factors causing it and how it can be prevented.  Basic terms related to the subject will be defined and an overview of the codes and regulations on this subject will be provided. The effect of these structural failures on society will be discussed\, emphasizing the responsibility of structural engineers towards public safety. \nPresenter – Nader Shokoufi\, Engineer-in-Training – With a BSc in Civil Engineering and an MSc in Structural Engineering\, Nader Shokoufi has over two decades of experience in structural design. From 1998 to 2023\, he served at Tavon Consulting Engineers in Iran\, culminating as a Board member and Manager of the Structural Design Department. In 2024\, he joined WSP Canada as a Senior Structural Designer. Nader has designed numerous large-scale projects\, including cinema complexes\, sports complexes\, airport terminals\, metro stations\, and high-rise buildings. Recognized with the FIDIC Young Professional of the Year Award (2016) and Iran’s Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award (2017)\, he holds several prestigious professional affiliations. \nWho should Attend: The presentation is aimed at the general engineering audience and does not go into detailed structural calculations. \nGeneral Information: There is no cost to attend\, but registration is required.
