SUMMARY:Bioprocess Engineering for Developing Value Added Sector in Saskatchewan – An APEGS Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Date: March 20\, 2025 \nTime: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CST (Saskatchewan Time) \nEvent Format: Live Webinar – Microsoft Teams \nHosting Organization: APEGS – A Member-Led Live Webinar Series Presentation \nEvent Summary: Bioprocess Engineering\, an interdisciplinary field of engineering could support developing new value-added sector in the province. The focus is on converting crops and agriculture residue/by-products to higher value products of industrial application. The focus of the presentation will be on providing high level introduction of work being undertaken in the University of Saskatchewan and discussing projects undertaken by us to add value to various agriculture residue. Specially\, the presentation will focus on the work of utilizing canola meal\, oat hulls and straw biomass for materials\, chemicals and food application. \nPresenter: Bishnu Acharya\, Ph.D.\, P. Eng. Dr. Acharya is an Associate Professor and Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture Endowed Research Chair in Bioprocess Engineering at the College of Engineering in the University of Saskatchewan. His research focuses on the development of high value bioproducts from low-value biomass and agro processing waste. His research expertise lies in the area of bioprocessing and conversion\, particularly in the emerging area of conversion of biomass to bioproducts for chemical\, material\, and energy applications by adopting a circular bioeconomy approach. His awards include 2024 Mitacs Innovation Award – Outstanding Research Leadership\, USask – High Scholarly Impact Award (2024)\, UPEI Faculty Association – Scholarly Achievement Award (2019)\, and Graduate Faculty Appreciation Award (2018). Dr. Acharya’s research work has been published in 8 book chapters\, over 90 journal articles and several conferences and provided training to more than 70 HQP. Dr. Acharya is also a founding member and scientific advisor of TuniStrong Technologies Inc. and CanXtract Innovation Inc.\, a spin off from his research activities. \nWho Should Attend: Individuals working in the bioprocessing sector covering energy\, chemicals and food processing. \nGeneral Information: There is no cost to attend\, but registration is required. This webinar is eligible for 1 Formal Activity CPD credit. This event will be held live on the Microsoft Teams Webinar platform. \nImportant: Once your registration is complete\, you will receive a Teams Meeting invitation which includes a unique link to join the meeting.
