SUMMARY:Decoding Welding Procedures: Bridging Metallurgy and Code Compliance – An APEGS Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Date: August 19\, 2025 \nTime: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CST (Saskatchewan Time) \nEvent Format: Live Webinar – Microsoft Teams \nHosting Organization: APEGS – A Member-Led Webinar Series Presentation \nRegistration is now closed \n______________________________________________________________________________ \nEvent Summary: Welding procedures are the backbone of reliable and code-compliant fabrication\, yet their concept\, development\, and application often feel complex and confusing. This webinar aims to simplify and clarify welding procedures by bridging the gap between welding metallurgy and code requirements. Participants will gain insights into how the behavior of steels under heat—such as phase changes\, hardening\, and heat-affected zone effects—influences procedure design. We’ll connect these metallurgical principles to the creation and qualification of essential documents: the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)\, Procedure Qualification Record (PQR)\, and Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ). \nPresenter: Dr. Hamed Akhiani\, P.Eng. completed his PhD in Materials/Mechanical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. With more than 15 years of experience in various industries including Agricultural\, Automotive\, Nuclear\, Energy and Oil/Gas\, he served as a sessional lecturer for Welding at University of Calgary and Material Science at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Akhiani is a Professional Engineer in AB\, SK and BC and a certified Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) Welding Engineer. In 2021\, he founded XPERJY Inc. based on the need for interdisciplinary technical training provided by Subject Matter Experts. His vision is to provide customized training by Subject Matter Experts to clients based on their team knowledge gap to enhance team productivity. He currently works at IMPACT Pump Solution in Calgary. \nWho Should Attend: Engineers (mechanical\, structural\, chemical\, materials\, manufacturing)\, QC/QA professionals\, inspectors\, and code compliance personnel. \n______________________________________________________________________________ \nGeneral Information: There is no cost to attend\, but registration is required. This webinar is eligible for 1 verifiable Formal Activity CPD credit. \nIf you need to cancel your registration to this event\, please email cpd@apegs.ca. \nNOTE: Clicking the ‘Add to Calendar’ button on this page does NOT register you for this event. \nThis webinar will not be recorded. \n______________________________________________________________________________ \nEvent Contact: APEGS Professional Development Department | Angela Foster or Jolene Arthur | cpd@apegs.ca \nDisclaimer: The views expressed during this event are those of the presenters and do not necessarily represent the views of APEGS.
