SUMMARY:The Role of Asset Management in Designing for the Future – An APEGS Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Date:  March 26\, 2025 \nTime: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CST (Saskatchewan Time) \nEvent Format: Live Webinar – Microsoft Teams \nHosting Organization: APEGS – A Member-Led Live Webinar Series Presentation \nEvent Summary: Asset management is crucial for designing sustainable\, adaptable\, and future-ready systems. By integrating asset management principles into the engineering design process\, engineers can ensure that assets are optimized for long-term performance\, cost efficiency\, and risk management. This includes planning for lifecycle costs\, leveraging data analytics for predictive maintenance\, and designing flexible systems that can evolve with emerging technologies. As challenges such as aging infrastructure and sustainability pressures grow\, asset management becomes essential for creating resilient solutions to meet future demands. Engineers should embrace this approach to ensure their designs remain effective and adaptable in an ever-changing world. \nPresenter: Darren Wiebe\, P.Eng.\, founder and CEO of ASI Engineering\, is transforming infrastructure management in Canada. With a career spanning hands-on fieldwork to leadership roles in government\, he founded ASI in 2023 to bridge the gap between policy and practice. ASI Engineering specializes in asset management\, offering data-driven solutions for aging infrastructure. Darren’s expertise in engineering\, project management\, and asset strategy ensures practical\, field-based decision-making. Passionate about training future engineers\, he emphasizes real-world application. ASI Engineering is more than a firm – it’s a partner in infrastructure renewal\, shaping sustainable solutions that enhance communities and ensure long-term resilience. \nWho Should Attend: Individuals who work in asset-owning organizations\, especially those with asset management responsibilities who: \n\njustify funding for critical infrastructure maintenance and upgrades\nunderstand the scope of asset management and are tasked to know what and how to prioritize\nare concerned with public or operational backlash due to the risk of infrastructure failures or lack of public safety measures\n\nGeneral Information: There is no cost to attend\, but registration is required. This webinar is eligible for 1 Formal Activity CPD credit. This event will be held live on the Microsoft Teams Webinar platform. \nImportant: Once your registration is complete\, you will receive a Teams Meeting invitation which includes a unique link to join the meeting. SUMMARY:Hitting the right frequency - not all conductors are created equal
DESCRIPTION:Date: May 23\, 2025 \nTime: 12:00 PM \nEvent Format: In-person Presentation \nLocation: Saskatoon\, SK \nHosting Organization: Saskatoon Geoscience Discussion Group \nEvent Summary: Airborne time domain electromagnetic (EM) surveys are indispensable tools for subsurface exploration\, particularly in resolving conductors at depth. Their depth of investigation depends in part on transmitter frequency and moment\, as well as the noise levels of the receiver. In this study\, we present a comparison of conductor detection and resolution capabilities of the Xcite time-domain EM system operating at frequencies of 15 Hz and 30 Hz. Through detailed modelling of data collected over a study area\, we investigate the effect of these frequencies on the system’s ability to detect and resolve conductors. Methodologically\, we describe the parameters and settings used for both frequencies and outline the data analysis techniques used. Our results reveal significant differences in conductor detection and resolution between the two frequencies. The practical implications of our study extend to improvements in survey design\, suggesting that the choice of frequency can significantly impact survey outcomes. Moreover\, our findings underscore the importance of further research to enhance understanding and optimization of airborne EM survey methodologies. Presented by Vessela Hobson\, Chief Geophysicist Axiom Geophysics & Remote Sensing. \nHow to Register: Click here for more information and to register. \nEvent Contact: Saskatoon Geoscience Discussion Group: https://stoongeogroup.ca/ \nDisclaimer: The views expressed during this event are those of the hosting organization and do not necessarily represent the views of APEGS.
