SUMMARY:PGO Virtual Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Event Format: Virtual webinars \nHosting Organization: Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) \nEvent Summary: This year’s 2024 Virtual Symposium is taking place April 16\, 18\, 23 & 25\, 2024 \nEach day is comprised of 3-4 interactive sessions from experts from 12-1.30 pm each day.  The sessions will cover issues currently facing the profession\, including equity\, diversity and inclusion\, labour shortage\, AI and liability. \nBelow is a brief overview of each day and topics to be covered in the sessions. \nAPRIL 16 – Equity\, Diversity and Inclusion: Demystifying Registration Practices \nThis session will focus on raising awareness of the PGO’s process for licensing newcomers to Canada and how to bring equity\, diversity\, and inclusion (EDI) into the registration process for these individuals. \nAPRIL 18 – Engaging\, Developing\, and Retaining Multigenerational Geoscientists \nGeoscience is currently facing a labour market problem\, as many are retiring or just entering the field. This session will cover how to integrate new professionals\, retain and reengage existing professionals and mentor them to fast-track upskilling. \n\nAPRIL 23 – Bridging Realms: Artificial Intelligence in Professional Geoscience \nHow will AI affect professional geoscience? This session offers an insightful intro into AI before delving deeper into practical applications throughout the field\, and how it will affect the future of the profession. \n\nAPRIL 25 – Practice\, Pitfalls\, and Protections – Some Social and Legal Aspects of Geoscience Practice \nTo protect their own interests\, professional geoscientists should be aware that the public will rely on the professional’s opinion and that reliance brings legal obligation\, legal liability\, and public-interest responsibility with it. This session will cover recent lesser-known legal developments relevant to the profession. \nThis symposium is relevant to professional geoscientists\, geoscientists-in-training\, and geoscience students across Ontario and beyond. This learning event will also be of interest to associated communities\, including professional regulators\, technical societies\, government staff\, legal practitioners\, and the public. \nHow to Register: \nClick here for more information and registration \nEvent Contact: Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) www.pgo.ca \nDisclaimer:  The views expressed during this event are those of the hosting organization and do not necessarily represent the views of APEGS.
