SUMMARY:Operation Management System and its impact on Process Safety
DESCRIPTION:Date: August 13\, 2024 \nTime: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CST (Saskatchewan Time) \nEvent Format: Live Webinar – Microsoft Teams \nHosting Organization: APEGS – A Professional Webinar Series Presentation \nEvent Summary: An Operations Management System (OMS) plays a vital role in performing your role as an engineer and/or a geoscientist in the energy sector\, whether its in oil and gas production or as a service provider. An OMS is basically a framework of elements such as leadership accountability\, risk management\, incident management\, reliability and integrity\, management of change\, supply chain management\, performance assessment and continuous improvement\, and so on. This framework helps the industry enhance measures for process safety and remain in compliance via internal and external audits. Knowledge of an OMS will help candidates self-assess to continue what they are doing well\, find out what they need to learn next and apply operational excellence in their respective functions. \nPresenter – Dr. Mahesh Makkar\, P.Eng. \nMahesh is a Professional Engineer with 30 years of experience in upstream oil & gas production\, operational excellence management\, and industrial R&D. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Surrey\, England and has held board positions with the Society of Petroleum Engineers\, including Chairman of the Lloydminster Section. Mahesh has a passion for energy management and identifying ways of increasing efficiency and reducing environmental impact. Currently\, he is working as Engineering Manager with Helios Consulting Limited and teaching as Adjunct Professor in Mount Royal University and University of Lethbridge. \nWho Should Attend: Engineers and geoscientists working in any function of oil & gas production and pipelines operations\, mining and agricultural sectors dealing specifically with operational integrity and operational excellence. \nThere is no cost to attend\, but registration is required. This webinar is eligible for Formal Activity CPD credit. This event will be held live on the Microsoft Teams platform.  The meeting link will be sent by end of day on August 9\, 2024 to the email address in which you registered for this event. \nRegistration is now closed.  If you need to cancel your registration to this event\, please email cpd@apegs.ca. \nEvent Contact: APEGS Professional Development Department – Angela Foster or Jolene Arthur – cpd@apegs.ca \nDisclaimer: The views expressed during this event are those of the presenters and do not necessarily represent the views of APEGS. \nNOTE:  Clicking the “Add to Calendar” button below does NOT register you for this event.  Please use the link above to register.

SUMMARY:Decarbonization in the Oil & Gas Sector
DESCRIPTION:Registration is now closed. \nDate: August 22\, 2024 \nTime: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CST (Saskatchewan Time) \nEvent Format: Live Webinar – Microsoft Teams \nHosting Organization: APEGS – A Member-Led Live Webinar Series Presentation \nEvent Summary: In recent years\, Canada has introduced its plan for 2050 net-zero emissions goals with the aim to make the Canadian economy either emit no greenhouse gas emissions or offset these emissions. One of the methods to achieve these goals is employing technologies that can capture carbon emission before it is vented into the atmosphere. In Canada\, the oil and gas sector is the highest emitting sector and adopting the decarbonization solution is not an easy task due to many reasons. However\, the most pressing reasons are the lack of understanding of carbon capture technologies and the shortage of skilled engineers in this space. This webinar will provide engineers with the fundamentals to better understand the carbon capture processes with focus on those technologies\, which are ready and suitable for both small and large emitting facilities. \nPresenter – Walid ElMoudir\, Ph.D.\, P.Eng.\, PMP \nDr. Walid ElMoudir is the Principal Process Consultant at ChemProcess Consulting & Services Ltd. and the official representative of Optimized Gas Treating\, Inc. (Texas\, USA) in Africa\, Turkey and Cyprus. Dr. ElMoudir has a B.Sc. (University of Tripoli\, Libya) and M.Sc. with distinction (University of Leeds\, UK) in Chemical Engineering\, and a Ph.D. in Industrial Systems Engineering (University of Regina\, Canada). He is a registered professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) and Alberta (APEGA). He is also certified as Project Management Professional (PMP®) by Project Management Institute (PMI). Dr. ElMoudir has twenty-four years experience in chemical plant design\, operation\, optimization and troubleshooting. He has participated in over 150 engineering studies and projects worldwide in Gas Processing and Conditioning\, Crude Oil Refining\, Chemical Purification\, Seawater Desalination\, and Research & Development. In his last 16 years\, he improved and developed generic and proprietary Carbon Capture systems. He is an inventor of patented solvent purification system for carbon capture applications and has published more than 25 publications and papers on many technical topics. \nWho Should Attend: \nEngineers and operators in the oil and gas sector as well as Engineering students. \nThere is no cost to attend\, but registration is required. This webinar is eligible for Formal Activity CPD credit. This event will be held live on the Microsoft Teams platform.  The meeting link will be sent by end of day on August 20\, 2024 to the email address in which you registered for this event.
