With a mandate is to advance safety, efficiency, and environmental performance in partnership with the energy industry; C-FER Technologies (1999) Inc.’s (“C-FER”) vision is to have a global impact in an evolving energy industry, and is committed to playing a major role in the reduction of the global energy industry’s carbon footprint. Specific examples of this commitment include projects in the areas of geothermal energy, low‑carbon hydrogen production and distribution, and carbon capture and storage (CCS).

C-FER is a not-for-profit, board‑governed, fully owned, subsidiary of Alberta Innovates. C‑FER aims to be a self-sustaining organization, with enough profitability to enable ongoing investment, development, and optimization of its key assets; our people and testing facilities. C‑FER currently employs 90 people, with a vision to grow to more than 110 people in the next 3 to 4 years. It offers a broad range of engineering services, that primarily support the evolving energy industry, including engineering assessments and equipment qualification testing. C-FER has two world‑class large-scale laboratory testing facilities in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, that can simulate almost any operating environment.

Reporting to the Director, Engineering Operations, the Department Manager, Equipment Reliability & Software (ERS), will lead and manage a team of highly qualified professionals engaged in reliability assessments (e.g., statistical analysis and benchmarking, identification of opportunities for improvements in equipment and systems, and implementation of best practices), data analytics for production systems, and software development for engineering applications in C-FER’s areas of expertise.

ERS’ value proposition to its clients includes improving reliability and performance, creating an impact through environmental, social and governance (ESG) activities, energy transition, and the facilitation of a lower‑carbon footprint. Key expected business results will include, maintaining high department chargeability and operational efficiency, and proactively identifying new business opportunities.

As a successful candidate, you will be a highly skilled senior engineer with solid leadership, relationship building, business, technical, and managerial skills; complimented by a good industry reputation. Additionally, you will possess a professional engineering designation, along with over 10 years experience in the oil and gas industry, and a minimum of two years leading software development teams. Experience with electric submersible pump (ESP) and/or progressing cavity pump (PCP) artificial lift methods, and effective application of data analytics, is a mandatory requirement.
