Life Membership

Life Membership is available to members who are retired and 65 years of age or older. Life Members are not required to pay the annual membership fee or licence fee. A Life Member who subsequently wishes to resume engineering or geoscience work on projects or properties located in Saskatchewan can simply call the APEGS office to pay the prorated membership and licence fees plus GST for the remainder of the calendar year.

If members are retired or not working at the beginning of the year they turn 65, they can apply for Life Membership in advance of their birthday. In this case, members would be given a temporary Life Membership which would be officially granted at the first meeting of Council after their 65th birthday has passed. This procedure is in place to avoid having members pay annual fees at the beginning of the year only to have them refunded later the same year.

Please note: This does not apply if members are still working at the beginning of the year they turn 65.

How to apply for Life Membership

Members who are eligible for Life Membership, or will become eligible in the upcoming year and who wish to apply for it, may do so using the Life Member Application Form.

Completed applications can be submitted to the APEGS office either by mail, or scan and contact us.

Life Members and use of title

Life Members are permitted to continue to use the professional designation they had at the time they became a Life Member (P.Eng., P.Geo., Engineering Licensee, Geoscience Licensee, Engineer-in-Training or Geoscientist-in-Training).

Refund of annual fees for Life Members

As per Council policy Admin 6.0, Life Member applicants (new and reinstating) may receive a refund of annual fees within a period of one year from the date the member qualifies for Life Membership. The refund shall be for the calendar year in which the member became eligible for a Life Membership.

What if a Life Member wants to return to practice?

A Life Member who subsequently wishes to resume engineering or geoscience work on projects or properties located in Saskatchewan can simply call the APEGS office and pay the prorated membership and licence fee plus GST for the remainder of the calendar year. Payments can be made by credit card over the phone, or by mailing a cheque to the APEGS office. Members who need a fees notice mailed can request it at the time they call to reinstate.

Former APEGS members who qualify for a Life Membership

For new life member applicants who are former APEGS members, no annual fees are charged no matter how long ago membership ended. Procedures for applying for Life Memberships are the same for current and former APEGS members. To learn more, see the “How to apply” section.
