Digital Signatures & Seals

Digital Signatures

The documents that engineers and geoscientists produce are subject to high standards of reliability. Digital signatures held by members of APEGS confirm the civic identity and professional designation of the member as of the time of signing. The signature serves as proof that the signer is in good standing and has the right to practice independently in Saskatchewan, in addition to ensuring the integrity of the signed documents and preventing their falsification.

It is essential that many of these digital documents are legally reliable in compliance with APEGS requirements. Professional members who wish to produce Digital Signatures can now do so with CertifiO for Professionals – APEGS Digital Signature.

APEGS has endorsed Notarius to provide the APEGS Digital Signature to professional members.

Professional Seals

Sealing, signing, and dating (collectively referred to as “authentication”) of documents related to the practice of professional engineering or professional geoscience, is a requirement under The Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act and Bylaws.

The professional engineer or professional geoscientist seal constitutes the distinctive mark of the professional. It certifies that its holder is a member of the Association and is licensed to practice professional engineering or professional geoscience on projects or properties located in Saskatchewan.

Issue of seals

All new licence holders who are eligible to practice independently (i.e., professional members, restricted licensees and temporary licensees) and Certificate of Authorization holders will be issued an electronic image of their professional seal, upon approval and payment of all associated application and annual fees. An electronic image of the seal does not include a digital signature. If members wish to subscribe to a digital signature provider, APEGS has endorsed Notarius (see previous section on Digital Signatures).

Members who do not currently have an electronic image of their seal, and would like one, can request one by reaching out through our Contact Us page.

Please note: Physical seals will only be issued by request, and on a cost-recovery basis, including cost for postage, plus applicable taxes. See below for details.

Effective September 1, 2023, Certificate of Authorization will be charged for physical seals, including cost for postage, plus applicable taxes.

Effective January 1, 2024, physical seals will not be issued to members-in-training.

Ordering seals

The cost for each new or replacement seal is $30 (GST included), plus postage. To order a seal, please request one through our Contact Us page. Members must include which type of seal they would like (23mm self-inking or regular 43mm, or both), as well as their mailing address. See the table below for approximate postage costs.

Once APEGS receives a member’s seal order, an invoice will be posted to their online profile in APEGS Central under Invoices. Once the invoice is paid, the stamp(s) will be ordered and shipped to the mailing address provided.
