Act and Bylaw Review

APEGS is engaging in a review of the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act. The process began in September 2023, and we are preparing to submit proposed changes for government consideration by mid-2026. As part of the process, APEGS has also been reviewing the bylaws. The Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act

The Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act is the legislation that governs APEGS. This Act officially defines the practices of professional engineering and geoscience, describes council responsibilities, outlines bylaws, and includes information on memberships, disciplinary actions and more.

Objects of the Association

The objects of the Association are found in Section 5 of  the act:

  1. to ensure the proficiency and competency of members in the practice of professional engineering or the practice of professional geoscience in order to safeguard the public;
  2. to regulate the practice of professional engineering and the practice of professional geoscience by members in accordance with the Act and the Bylaws;
  3. to promote and improve the proficiency and competency of members;
  4. to foster the practice of professional engineering and the practice of professional geoscience by members in a manner that is in the public interest.
