Accessibility Design Options

Sherry Hastings, Dipl. Arch. Tech., CCCA, CSP, Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (TM) Professional, P3Architecture Partnership, Regina

Accessible design is beyond meeting minimum code requirements which often does not meet the actual needs of people with disabilities. The Rick Hansen Foundation has developed a universal rating scale with recommendations for accessing levels of meaningful access while complementing existing building codes and standards. Sherry Hastings is one of only a few RHFACPs in Saskatchewan, and will explore this range – from common issues with applying the minimum standard, to easily integrated ‘beyond the codes’ approaches.
