Introduction to Additive Manufacturing and Unlocking its Potential in Saskatchewan’s Key Industries – An APEGS Webinar
December 17 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Date: December 17, 2024
Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CST (Saskatchewan Time)
Event Format: Live Webinar – Microsoft Teams
Hosting Organization: APEGS – A Member-Led Live Webinar Series Presentation
Event Summary: This webinar will provide a comprehensive introduction to the seven categories of additive manufacturing (AM), highlighting their materials, processes, and mechanisms. We will explore Material Extrusion, Vat Polymerization, Powder Bed Fusion, Material Jetting, Binder Jetting, Sheet Lamination, and Directed Energy Deposition, offering a clear understanding of how each method works and the types of materials they employ. Following the technical introduction, the focus will shift to Saskatchewan’s key industries – agriculture, mining, small modular reactors (SMRs), and carbon capture and storage (CCS). We will examine the current and potential applications of AM in these sectors, showcasing recent use cases that highlight its ability to enhance productivity, create custom solutions, and promote sustainability. The session will also explore future possibilities for AM in addressing industry-specific challenges, such as machinery customization, component innovation, and environmental impact reduction. Attendees will gain insight into how AM can drive technological advancements and economic growth in Saskatchewan.
Presenter: Dr. Mohammad Khondoker, Ph.D., P.Eng. is an Assistant Professor in the Industrial Systems Engineering program at the University of Regina (U of R). He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta. Prior to joining the U of R, he gained valuable teaching and research experience at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and McMaster University. Dr. Khondoker currently leads the Additive Manufacturing Research Lab (AMRL), where his research focuses on additive manufacturing, 3D printing, polymer processing, and smart materials. His work explores innovative solutions in these areas, advancing both academic research and industrial applications.
Who Should Attend: Professionals in agriculture, mining, small modular reactors (SMRs), and carbon capture and storage (CCS) can familiarize themselves with additive manufacturing, and understand how this innovative technology can enhance and transform their industries.
General Information: There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. This webinar is eligible for 1 Formal Activity CPD credit.
