Event Summary
Evacuating a building in a safe and timely manner is critical to occupant safety. It is a core principle in building design and underpins many of the requirements in the NBC. This presentation will focus on the basic concept of providing a “means of egress” from every point within a building. It will explore the primary components of a means of egress, clarify the distinction between “access to exit” and “exit”, and outline how designers determine travel distance. It is intended to provide an awareness level understanding of the topic.
