Licence Waiver Program Changes

APEGS has updated the Licence Waiver Program following amendments to the Administration of Fees Policy approved by council.

These changes take effect beginning with the 2027 licensing year and may affect current licence waiver holders, members in training, and anyone who may apply for a licence waiver in the future.

Key Dates:

The following dates are important for members who currently hold a licence waiver or may apply for one in the future:

October 31, 2026 – Final day licence waiver applications will be accepted for the 2026 licensing year.

November 1, 2026 – Revised Licence Waiver Program requirements and application processes take effect.

November 1 to December 31, 2026 – Application period for licence waivers for the 2027 licensing year.

December 31, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Central Standard Time – Deadline to submit a licence waiver application for the 2027 licensing year

What Has Changed?

1. New Application Periods

Licence waiver applications are now accepted only:

• when applying for licensure; or
• during the annual licensing period.

2. Updated Eligibility Requirements

Beginning with the 2027 licensing year, licence waivers are not available to:

• Members-in-training;
• Temporary Licensees;
• members not in good standing;
• sole Official Representatives for a Certificate of Authorization holder;
• members practising professional engineering or professional geoscience in Saskatchewan;
• members employed in Saskatchewan in any capacity, including non-engineering and non-geoscience jobs; and
• members living in Saskatchewan and practising professional engineering or professional geoscience outside Saskatchewan, including remotely for projects or clients located outside Saskatchewan.

Members holding a licence waiver must continue to meet the eligibility requirements throughout the waiver period. If you no longer qualify for a licence waiver, you must immediately notify APEGS and reactivate your licence.

3. Applying for a Licence Waiver

Members who believe they may qualify for a licence waiver are strongly encouraged to submit their application before paying annual fees.

Submitting your application before payment allows APEGS to review eligibility and adjust your invoice before payment is made.

Current Waiver Holders

If you currently hold a licence waiver for the 2026 licensing year, your waiver will remain valid for the remainder of the year, provided you continue to meet the eligibility requirements under which the waiver was granted.

Members seeking a licence waiver for the 2027 licensing year will be required to meet the revised eligibility requirements and submit an application during the annual renewal period.
