Building Standards Advisory

The Uniform Building and Accessibility Standards Regulations and The Fire Safety Regulations will adopt the National Building Code (NBC) 2015 and the National Fire Code (NFC) 2015 in Saskatchewan. As a result of these amendments, these codes will come into force on January 1, 2018 with the exception of the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB} and NBC 2015 Section 9.36. - Energy Efficiency Standards, which are scheduled for January 1, 2019.

The adoption of new codes is part of the Government's commitment to safe, healthy, habitable buildings by ensuring Saskatchewan's legislative framework for building construction remains current. The Ministry of Government Relations is committed to collaborating with major stakeholder groups in determining effective, Saskatchewan appropriate ways to apply the energy standards beginning January 1, 2019. Additional consultations with stakeholders will occur in 2018.

Copies of the NBC 2015, NFC 2015, and the NECB 2015 are available for purchase from the National Research Council (https://www.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca). The Saskatchewan Amendments to the NBC 2015 and NFC 2015 will be available shortly in the appendices of the regulations noted above at Publications Saskatchewan (www.publications.gov.sk.ca).
