  • Generation field maintenance engineers provide technical expertise to BC Hydro leadership and crews for maintenance and operation of hydro generators and associated equipment in the powerhouse, substation, and within the dam. This position is rewarding but it can also be demanding and requires a highly motivated, responsible technical leader who can respond to urgent issues, quickly re-prioritize workload, and take appropriate actions.
  • Depending on the need for support, the offered position will be headquartered at either GM Shrum (GMS) or Peace Canyon (PCN) generating station, located 22 km and 9 km from Hudson’s Hope respectively, and will support both facilities. The work is fast paced and interesting, with a complex maintenance plan and ongoing capital works.
  • Hudson’s Hope is a beautiful community on the Peace River, with the amenities of a small town and access to many outdoor activities. Due to the remote location, this position qualifies for additional incentives including a 20% Northern allowance paid biweekly, a one-time $25,000.00 interest-free housing loan, and an annual fixed value travel incentive based on the typical airfare from the nearest airport to Vancouver, plus 3 nights hotel for the family members listed on the employees benefit coverage as of April 1.

Duties include:

  • Ensures that all communications provided to stakeholders aligns with the EGBC Code of Ethics and Quality Management Guides.
  • Provides electrical engineering support for maintenance of BC Hydro generating stations, as well as support structures, including switchyards, spillways and dams, at GM Shrum and Peace Canyon.
  • Performs Root Cause Analysis for failures and issues.
  • Takes responsibility for completion of defined aspects of the maintenance plan and collaborates with stakeholders to complete the maintenance plan.
  • Is responsible for the technical aspects of reviewing, revising, and making recommendations on preventative maintenance programs and condition based/corrective maintenance and repair.
  • Acts as the technical lead when working with crews to resolve maintenance issues and troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Supports data collection and analysis for EHR (Equipment Health Rating) and RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) in the generating station.
  • Provides technical support in the development of capital plans and plant improvement projects.
  • Participates in and leads root cause analysis for equipment issues.
  • Will be headquartered either at GM Shrum or Peace Canyon.


  • Hold a degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Be registered or eligible for immediate registration as a professional engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
  • The Applicant may be hired as a Senior Engineer (8+ years) or Intermediate Engineer (4+ years) depending on level of experience in the relevant engineering field.
  • Candidates with a proven maintenance background will be preferred
  • Have demonstrated technical knowledge of hydro-electric generation.
  • Have the ability to provide work leadership and technical direction to engineers and/or other technical support staff.
  • Have the ability to apply innovative methods of troubleshooting and analysis for complex electrical issues.
  • Be able to analyze, interpret and evaluate various complex technical studies and data.
  • Have the ability to develop and improve maintenance programs utilizing strategies including time-based and reliability centered maintenance principles.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively with various internal and external experts and stakeholders for the purposes of gathering and relaying information to resolve issues of concern.
  • Have proven ability to work well with crews and peers.


  • This location is eligible for a Remote Incentive of 20%. Remote Incentives are paid bi-weekly to Full-Time Regular employees working in eligible remote locations.
  • This location is eligible for Travel Incentive. The Travel Incentive is extended to Full-Time Regular employees who are working in eligible remote locations.
  • This location is eligible for Extended Health Care Medical Travel Benefit. The Extended Health Care Medical Travel Benefit is extended to Full-Time Regular, Part-Time Regular and Full-Time Temporary employees who are permanently working in eligible remote locations.
  • Driver’s License Type = Class 5
  • Eng.: Professional Engineer = In Good Standing
  • The Applicant may be hired as a Senior Engineer (8+ years) or Intermediate Engineer (4+ years) depending on level of experience in the relevant engineering field.
