Meet the President: Nicholas Kaminski, P.Eng.
May 13th, 2026
Why did you choose engineering, and what is your area of specialty?
My passion for engineering began early in my childhood. I was always interested in mega projects, big buildings and bridges which is the root of every civil engineer’s dream. I specialized in structural engineering and currently have a practice of industrial / mining, buildings, and municipal infrastructure projects.
Where and when did you study, and how would you describe that experience?
I convocated from the University of Saskatchewan with my Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 2013 and my Master of Civil Engineering in 2019. Engineering was incredibly challenging but I am thankful for the experience was it provided the foundation for a rewarding career solving complex problems.
What are some of the most interesting, rewarding, and/or challenging experiences you have had?
I have been lucky to design and manage a variety of challenging greenfield projects including schools, water treatment plants, reservoirs, buildings, and hydraulic structures. I have also extensive brownfield experience in the design, inspection and retrofit of complex heavy industrial structures. The variety of my portfolio challenges me which motivates me to continue learning.
What have you appreciated most about your engineering journey?
I have appreciated the opportunity to learn from best-in-class while designing critical infrastructure that is instrumental to public safety and both sustains and improves our way of life.
Any mentors or role models you’d like to tell us about? What insight or wisdom did they impart?
I attribute my accomplishments to the vast support that I have received from my mentors, colleagues, and family throughout both my academic and professional career. I would not be where I am today without their gracious time and knowledge.
What activities or interests do you enjoy outside of work?
I enjoy traveling, hiking, photography, spending time with family and friends and being involved in my community by serving on boards of organizations that align with my values.
What does it mean to you to step into the role of APEGS President?
I feel incredibly fortunate to be given the opportunity to serve the public and our membership in this role. I look forward to working with my fellow council members and staff to continue delivering the mandate set out in the act.
